CTU’s healthcare management online degree program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded education in the field of healthcare. The online Healthcare Management degree program offers instruction in the business and administrative side of the healthcare industry. This includes, but is not limited to, patient access, revenue cycle management, project management, healthcare economics, fundamentals of marketing, and human resource management. Students will also have an opportunity to study important regulations and explore how to support an organization’s compliance needs, including patient privacy and HIPAA laws, as well as the ever-changing world of billing and insurance.

Healthcare Management Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management is a 180-credit-hour program that is offered online and at the Colorado Springs campus. The program includes 51 credit hours of general education credit, 109 credit hours of core healthcare management classes, and 20 credit hours of electives to define a concentration area.

The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills applicable to management positions in the healthcare industry as well as the application of fundamental principles and concepts of business administration to the healthcare management field.

Students will be presented with an integration of foundational knowledge in healthcare management and understanding and analysis of current issues such as reimbursement strategies; the changing legislative and regulatory environment; and the relationship of cost, quality, and access to care. Students may compare healthcare delivery models for their purposes and effectiveness, and contrast the United States with other countries; apply technology innovations and business, ethical, and legal principles to the management of healthcare organizations; and analyze various types of reimbursement received for healthcare services and the effect on the financial operations of a healthcare organization.

How is this different from the informatics concentration?

The general track keeps a broad management focus across finance, operations, human resources, and compliance, and can be taken online or at the Colorado Springs campus. The informatics concentration replaces 20 credits of elective coursework with study of health data—including data quality, accessibility and interoperability, the legal and regulatory requirements of electronic health records, data analytics, and cybersecurity in healthcare. Students can choose the general track for broad management responsibility, or informatics if they want to work at the intersection of healthcare operations and health information systems.
