Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)
As a veteran, you are eligible to apply for VR&E if you did not receive a dishonorable discharge and you have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from the VA. As an active duty service member, you are eligible to apply for VR&E if you have a 20% or higher pre-discharge disability rating (memorandum rating) and will soon leave the military, or if you’re waiting to be discharged because of a severe illness or injury that occurred while on active duty. Upon receiving your VR&E application, the VA will schedule an initial evaluation with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC). The VRC will determine if you are entitled to receive VR&E benefits and services.
Long-term services covered under VR&E may include post-secondary education and training, which can fund the cost of tuition, fees, books, necessary supplies, as well as provide monthly subsistence allowance during training. Additional conditions may apply.
