Master of Science in Management (MSM): Concentration in Project Management

CTU's Project Management concentration has been designed to help you prepare to develop the leadership abilities and vision to pursue a fulfilling future in project management. This Master of Science in Management concentration incorporates key areas contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)™ considered to be the industry standard by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). CTU's MSM-PM program includes: time and conflict management, HR management, risk analysis and management, scheduling techniques and many others. CTU's MSM with a concentration in Project Management can focus on the importance of leadership as it pertains to the  spectrum of management responsibilities, and covers key areas contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Successful completion of this degree program can provide students with an applicable foundation of relevant qualifications, including how to:

  • Plan projects effectively and successfully, taking into consideration the quadruple constraints of time, cost, resources and specifications.

The curriculum can focus on the importance of leadership as it pertains to the spectrum of project management responsibilities. Concentration courses include: 

  • In Project Management Processes in Organizations, students can examine the history and development of project management as a discipline, integrating project management into various organizational systems, strategic planning, competitive technology, joint ventures and human resources.
  • In Schedule and Cost Control Techniques, course content may emphasize a hands-on approach to using project management tools to facilitate scheduling, estimating, tracking and controlling the schedule and costs of the project. Topics can include ways to communicate project status and to develop contingency plans as well as how to incorporate risk and quality factors into project cost and schedules.
  • In Contracting and Procurement in Project Management, the emphasis can be on contract administration and dealing with subcontractors. Topics can include bidding, types of bids (e.g., RFQs, IFBs, and RFPs), types of contracts (e.g., fixed price, cost plus, fixed fee, and time and materials), their respective purposes and their impact on risk and project contract negotiation.
