Rick G.

DEGREE: MSM - Business Management - 2008

STATEMENT: I'M IN AND NOW I'm creating my own roadmap.

Describe your educational and professional background.

Having served the Navy for 11 years, I moved to Alaska to start an IT business. Soon, I recognized the need to move beyond technical and have a greater understanding of the business management level. Higher education was the answer. During the course of the master’s program I was promoted to fill the top position in an IT business. I attribute this opportunity to the inspiration, resources, and collaboration techniques learned through CTU.

How has CTU been part of your educational and professional path?

Career goals and a comprehensive understanding of external market influences were my motivation for higher education. As a single father of teenagers, combined with a career in Alaska and a full time job, CTU was the best solution provided by the educational marketplace. The flexibility of the CTU program combined with the multiple person live communication tools had a reassuring element of continued success. The environment allowed me to meet the dynamic requirements of a career, parenting, and advanced education.

How is your life different now that you've graduated from CTU?

It’s still mind blowing to me that I did it – that I have a master’s degree! I’m on the career track I’d hoped for when I set out to pursue higher education. My life experiences have been genuinely enhanced by these different opportunities. I now understand and proactively plan for the impacts of working in a global economy. And, as it turns out, a CTU graduate hired me.

This graduate story is unique and may not represent typical experiences or outcomes for our graduates.
