Concentration courses explore managerial supply chain philosophy and logistics concepts. The courses explore how to adapt and implement these concepts into a manufacturing environment while addressing warehousing, inventory, and distribution techniques. For example:
- In Logistics/SCM Inventory and Distribution, students can study the supply chain from raw materials through delivery to the end customers, with an emphasis on achieving efficient customer response (ECR) while minimizing inventory costs and improving cash flow. Students also study supply chain management (SCM) in today’s global e-business environment.
- In Impact on Design & Production, students can examine aspects of the production process that impact the total logistics system, including the concepts of total quality management, production planning and control, concurrent engineering, and the strategic approach to total manufacturing management.
- In Supply Chain/Logistics Cost Analysis, the course can focuse on an analysis of costs relative to system and product life cycle phases, including concept definition, design, production, modification, support, and retirement. The course can address the use of logistics cost analysis in making strategic and operational decisions, including product and supply chain design.
- In the Project Management Capstone, students can demonstrate the application of content, concepts, and knowledge developed in previous core and concentration courses in their specific academic program. The course can requires the completion of comprehensive research, analysis, and study in either a selected area of interest or a current business issue impacting the learner’s organization or company. Students could complete an in-depth project utilizing discipline-specific strategies. Research methodologies can be used to prepare a formal report.
