Master of Business Administration (MBA): Concentration in Hospitality Management

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a professional degree intended for those who aspire to increasing levels of knowledge in business and industry. Colorado Technical University’s MBA degree program with a concentration in Hospitality Management is designed to give students an opportunity to learn leadership knowledge, financial management, hospitality operations, customer service strategy, planning processes, and operations methodology.

While the MBA with a concentration in Hospitality Management is strongly grounded in organizational concepts, strategic and management theory, the curriculum is focused on practical, growth‐oriented activities to ensure educational relevance and applicability in today's challenging business and institutional hospitality environments.

Taught by instructors, many who have a real-world understanding of the hospitality industry, this program is designed for those who wish to broaden and expand on their experience in leadership, properties planning, operations, and change management, either as line managers or consultants, as well as those focused on pursuing opportunities to transition into the profession.

In this industry-current curriculum, our project-based Professional Learning Model™ will challenge you to understand the management or consultant skills needed in the operations and functions of hospitality based venue. The CTU PLM™ is designed to place you in the active role of collaborative problem-solver as you acquire knowledge and skills in leadership, financial management, hospitality operations, customer service strategy, planning processes and operations methodology.

CTU's MBA with a concentration in Hospitality Management can cover a range of skills relevant to the hospitality industry. In this program, students may learn how to:

  • Investigate and analyze the roles and responsibilities of hospitality managers.
  • Identify and assess the techniques to create, operate, staff and evaluate service systems for hospitality/tourism/resort enterprises.
  • Differentiate between various organizational designs and their strategic implementation.
  • Research and explore emerging issues that impact domestic and global lodging.
  • Formulate marketing initiatives through research, develop effective strategies, enhance revenues from strategic channels and evaluate marketing outcomes.

Concentration courses in this program are grounded in organizational concepts, strategic and management theory, but the curriculum is also focused on practical, growth-oriented activities applicable in today's challenging business and institutional hospitality environments. For example:

  • In Hospitality Organizational Behavior, students can study how human behavior affects management challenges such as communication, decision-making, leadership and motivation.
  • In Hospitality and Food Service Operations, lodging, restaurants and other service industry segments can be examined from the viewpoint of today’s contemporary service providing operation.
  • In Hospitality Properties Development and Planning, students can analyze business growth strategies and trends in today’s diverse and demanding service industry; exploring operational methods a hospitality property could implement to operate efficiently in an environmentally responsible manner.
