Office of the Ombuds at CTU Online
The Office of the Ombuds was established in 2005 to assist students by serving as an impartial point of contact, independent of the University departments, where students can express grievances they are having with the University.
The Office is responsible for providing information regarding University policies and procedures and, when requested, serving as a liaison between the student and the University departments where communication has broken down or is not yielding resolution.
Who Should Contact the Office of the Ombuds?
- Students attending Colorado Technical University Online.
Who Should Contact a Ground Campus?
- Students who are attending a Colorado Technical University ground campus or are taking an online course through a ground campus in Colorado Springs, Denver, Kansas City, Pueblo or Sioux Falls.
- Ground Campus Students should contact the main office and explain that they have a grievance and they will be routed to the appropriate individual. Click this link to go to the Campus Locations page.
What the Office of the Ombuds Can Do?
- Respectfully listen to your grievances, questions, comments and inquiries;
- Provide information about University policies, procedures, contacts, and student and University responsibilities;
- Identify alternate options and propose strategies for resolution.
What the Office of the Ombuds Cannot do?
- Dictate actions or solutions to the University and its departments;
- Provide legal advice;
- Overturn decisions made by the University.
When Should the Office of the Ombuds be Contacted?
- Any time the student has questions regarding policy and/or procedure and does not know where to go;
- If any University policy, procedure or regulation has been applied to a student erroneously;
- If the student is not sure what options are available within the University given a situation or concern;
- If a student does not know whom to contact to get resolution.
What Is Needed When Contacting the Office of the Ombuds:
In order to help resolve a grievance in a timely manner, we ask students to provide information regarding the following:
- A verbal or written outline of the grievance. Please include dates of actions taken and names of individuals involved;
- Steps already taken to resolve the grievance;
- Why the response received from the University and/or service department is unsatisfactory;
- What outcome or further action is expected.
