Colorado Technical University student, Brenda Davis, of Mesa, Arizona, started working at McDonald’s when she was 16 years old. “I took the job at McDonald’s only intending to work there for the summer, but I never left,” said Davis. Twenty-one years later, she’s still there.

Nadia Najat Marquez's academic journey at CTU began with a phone call, but her life before that moment was defined by a series of hardships that has only strengthened her resolve. Nadia is of half-Navajo descent and grew up in the Four Corners region of New Mexico. As a teenager, she was taken out of public high school because of a debilitating heart condition. Nadia still managed to complete her homeschooling and graduate at the age of 16--a full 2 years early.

CTU Student Puts Work Experience to the Test and Earns Course Credit

Tammy started online classes with CTU in 2010 and earned an Associate of Science in Business Administration, which she obtained in 2014. She is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Human Resource Management.

“Getting credit through Fast Track™ saved me money, but it also saved me time,” Tammy said. “I’m in a position to earn my bachelor’s degree in 2016, which would not have been possible without using Fast Track™.” By earning her degree quicker, Tammy will be able to apply for new management opportunities at her company sooner and meet some of her professional goals faster than she anticipated.

For Andrew R. Chavez, a recently-retired US Army Staff sergeant, joining the military was just the “right thing to do.” Enlisting immediately after he completed high school, Chavez served his country for nine years before critical injuries caused him to be medically retired from active duty. Chavez reflects positively on his time in the military, but knew that he had to push himself further.

Mobile Professional Proves Road Warriors Can Go to College

As the Operational Excellence manager for his company, first-time college student Ricky Banks spends more than 50 percent of his job on the road. “At this juncture in my career, it is very hectic,” says Ricky. Over the last 27 years, Ricky has built his career from the ground up. Ricky started on the production floor and worked his way to middle management. He managed production, quality and environmental departments before settling into his current specialty in Lean Six Sigma and process improvement.  

Catching Up with CTU Alum Tapatha Knupke

Self-motivated and passionate about the future, Tapatha Knupke saw earning a degree as an opportunity to expand her horizons and find the job she’s always dreamed of having. For sixteen years Tapatha worked as a title insurance underwriter in the real estate industry. It was a job she just fell into but one that she happened to love, and it afforded her the opportunity to start a family. "Underwriting did not require a degree, so I didn't pursue one at the time," says Knupke. "My goal at the time was to raise my family while working in a career that I loved."
