Colorado Technical University’s Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn advanced knowledge and skills in areas of IT that are of critical importance in today’s increasingly specialized marketplace.
The MSIT core curriculum provides an in-depth understanding of both the ever growing challenges that enterprises are facing and the critical information technologies that they can choose and apply to effectively manage those challenges in a dynamic environment. You will then be given the opportunity to learn a deep knowledge in security management by taking 20 credit hours of specialization courses specifically designed to equip you with valuable subject-area expertise.

The MSIT with a specialization in Security Management is designed for students with a desire to develop professional skills in the main functional area of security management.
Protecting the assets and information of an organization’s vital enterprise computing infrastructure continues to be an area of large and growing concern. This concern gains greater momentum in the face of mobile and cloud computing.
What You Will Study
Specialization coursework in this program focuses on a number of substantive areas applicable to the area of security management. Master's degree in IT - Security Management course content has been designed to help students develop the ability to architect, plan, design, implement, monitor and manage suitable computer security systems for such an enterprise. For example:
- In Operating System Security, students can focus on the development of a security policy and the basic elements that provide identification and authentication, access control and security auditing. Both the UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems are studied.
- In Security Management, students can study a variety of issues relating to the management of information systems security, including the development of policies, standards and procedures, risk analysis methodologies, contingency planning and disaster recovery.

Advancing Your Industry-Current Credentials
In addition to the core and specialization courses, students in this program select 4 credit hours from advanced level business, computer science or information technology courses. Successful completion of the Master's in IT - Security Management program can provide students with an applicable foundation of business-related knowledge and skills, including how to:
- Assess the need for and make recommendations on the technical requirements necessary for the implementation of an effective security infrastructure.
- Identify and describe the impact of implementing security components at the operating system and network level.
- Develop effective enterprise level security policies, standards and procedures.
The CTU Master of Science in Information Technology degree program is designed to provide technical depth in the issues and concerns for enterprise level solutions. In order to achieve this depth a solid foundation in computer science (CS) or information technology (IT) is required. Students without a CS or IT undergraduate degree must demonstrate at least two years of work experience in the field.
