The MSIT core curriculum provides an in-depth understanding of both the ever growing challenges that enterprises are facing and the critical information technologies that they can choose and apply to effectively manage those challenges in a dynamic environment. You can then be given the opportunity to learn a deep knowledge in data management technology by taking 20 credit hours of specialization courses specifically designed to help equip you with valuable subject-area expertise.

The Master's of Science degree in Information Technology - Data Management Technology is designed for students with a desire to develop professional skills in the main functional area of data management and related data management technologies.

Technological innovations provide ever-increasing amounts of data and information to organizations for everything from local day-to-day operations to enterprise-level strategic planning and decision support.

Organizations need skilled professionals who can manage high-performance database systems, design and implement data repositories for multiple formats, environments and locations, retrieve information from the repositories, and develop policies and procedures to protect and preserve the data.

What You Will Study
Specialization courses in this program focus on a number of substantive areas applicable to the area of data management technology. Master's of Science in Information Technology - Date Management course content has been designed to help students identify, evaluate and integrate innovative data management technologies to ensure the organization’s competitiveness. For example:

  • In Data Warehouse, students can conduct an in‐depth study of data warehouses and data marts by exploring specific techniques for conceptual, logical and physical design of data warehouses.
  • In Database Systems, students can use real-life case studies to investigate concepts such as the design process, database objects, object hierarchy, data types, normalization of data, keys, indexes and referential integrity.

Advancing Your Industry-Current Credentials
In addition to the core and specialization courses, students in this program select 4 credit hours from advanced level business, computer science or information technology courses. Successful completion of the MSIT program with a specialization in Data Management Technology can provide students with an applicable foundation of business-related knowledge and skills, including how to:

  • Design and implement databases and data warehouses to support an organization’s information needs  – Enterprise Level Database Considerations.
  • Analyze risks and develop effective policies to maintain the integrity, security and continuity of an organization’s data across all enterprise locations.
  • Define an enterprise-level data architecture/model including multiple types and formats of data that satisfy the organization’s information needs. 
  • Plan and manage the development of applications that access data from multiple locations using different types of devices.

The CTU Master of Science in Information Technology degree program is designed to provide technical depth in the issues and concerns for enterprise level solutions. In order to achieve this depth a solid foundation in computer science (CS) or information technology (IT) is required. Students without a CS or IT undergraduate degree must demonstrate at least two years of work experience in the field.
