Master of Science in Management (MSM): Concentration in IT/Project Management

The Master of Science in Management (MSM) is a professional degree intended for those who aspire to increasing levels of responsibility in business and industry. Colorado Technical University offers a concentration in IT Management and Project Management that has been designed to provide a solid project management core curriculum, plus courses in computing platforms and network architecture designs.

Information management is critical to the success of an operation. From operational data, to employee records, to customer communications, vast new data amasses daily. In light of record keeping, security issues and government mandates, organizations are dramatically expanding their IT management systems and protocols.

The MSM with a concentration in Information Technology and Project Management is taught by instructors, many of whom can have relevant knowledge and perspectives regarding the skills necessary to design, build, integrate and manage the information technology systems and programs associated with today’s organizations. The Master's of Science in Management in IT Project Management may help students understand how to evaluate and present project objectives, requirements, scope and budgeting effectively to upper management.

Successful completion of the this degree program can provide students with an applicable foundation of relevant qualifications, including how to:

  • Plan projects effectively and successfully, taking into consideration the quadruple constraints of time, cost, resources and specifications.
  • Develop from the basic project plan a work-breakdown structure to the lowest granularity permitted by cost.

  • Plan and manage contractual purchasing issues, including, procurement and supply, outsourcing and just-in-time.
  • Evaluate and present project objectives, requirements, scope and budgeting effectively to upper management.

  • Design, develop and manage a database system.
  • Comprehend the concepts of telecommunications and networking systems design, development and management.
