Master of Science in Management (MSM): Concentration in IT Management

The Master of Science in Management (MSM) is a professional degree intended for those who aspire to increasing levels of responsibility in business and industry. Colorado Technical University offers a concentration in Information Technology Management. Course content can includes a solid core of project management curricula in addition to courses in information technology platforms and network architecture. Cost planning, resource allocation, contracts, risk analysis and oversight are also covered.

CTU's MSM with a concentration in IT Management covers key areas included in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), which serves as the fundamental knowledge base for project management developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). The curriculum can also covers software systems application and software systems development, with emphasis on relational database and client/server technology.

The courses in CTU's MSM in Information Technology Management degree program focus on helping students prepare with an opportunity to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to design, build, integrate and manage the information technology systems and programs associated with today’s organizations. For example:

  • In Networking and Telecommunications, the course can covers the basic concepts of data communications and design, including discussions on network operating systems as well as transmission media, communications hardware, network topologies, switching methods and network analysis.
  • In Information Technology Systems Development, students may study the life cycle development and management of systems using state-of-the-practice tools and techniques and acquire a foundation in the techniques used to specify and design systems of software and hardware components.
  • In IT Systems Implementation, students can focus on the testing, implementation and maintenance of computer systems to support business processes. Topics may include test planning, test procedures and test activities necessary for successful implementation.
