Based on a high-level business management curriculum, the Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Environmental & Social Sustainability, you can learn strategies to build your company. Students can learn about reduction and recycling, chain-of-custody, and the i Triple Bottom Line (People, Planet, Profit). The program combines business administration skills with an emphasis on innovation, and on environmental and social responsibility.

CTU's MBA with a concentration in Environmental and Social Sustainability is designed for students interested in acquiring an understanding of the nature of sustainable business. In this program, students can learn how to:

  • Demonstrate and understanding of the functional areas of business: accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and strategic management.
  • Ethically employ leadership skills, including effective judgment and decision-making.
  • Use entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial skills to work within an organization to bring about innovation and growth.
  • Evaluate organizational effectiveness using a triple bottom line approach.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of sustainable business and how it can be operationalized in an organization.

Concentration courses in this program combines strategic business skills with environmental savvy to help students learn skills that may give them a competitive edge. From reduction and recycling, to chain-of-custody and the triple bottom line (people, planet, profit), you can discover actionable strategies that can help a company respond to increasing customer demands. For example:

  • In Foundations of Sustainable Business, the course can address various definitions of sustainability in the context of business organizations and introduces students to the triple bottom line (people, planet and profits). Through an examination of recent policy change and case studies of environmentally and socially responsible organizations, this course can lay the foundation for understanding sustainable business.
  • In Implementing the Triple Bottom Line, students can examine the inherent difficulties in implementing the triple bottom line, including the making of decisions that simultaneously address economic, ethical, technological, social justice and environmental concerns. The focus is on developing a plan for an organization that makes progress in all of these areas.
  • In Sustainable Operations, students can study process analysis, quality improvement, planning and control, risk management, and supply chain management, but instead of using the traditional measure of economic success, solutions will be evaluated against their impact on social justice, environmental responsibility and economic success.
  • In the Management Capstone, students can demonstrate the application of content, concepts, and knowledge developed in previous core and concentration courses in their specific academic program. The course can require the completion of comprehensive research, analysis, and study in either a selected area of interest or a current business issue impacting the learner’s organization or company. Students can complete an in-depth project utilizing discipline-specific strategies. Research methodologies can be used to prepare a formal report.
